For more than two decades, the FIN Atlantic International Film Festival has brought outdoor cinema to Halifax during the summer. After a pause in the tradition, FIN Outdoor returns with a series celebrating the work of Canadian actor, director, writer, and producer Sarah Polley.
The programme places Polley’s films in an open-air setting, pairing the shared experience of a summer screening with a selection of work that spans intimate drama, memory, relationships, and storytelling.
The four-film programme begins with My Life Without Me, followed by Away from Her, Take This Waltz, and Stories We Tell. Together, the films trace different chapters in Polley’s career as a filmmaker and storyteller.
Screenings begin at dusk, with entry opening before the films start. Audiences are encouraged to bring their own blankets or chairs and to check the official FIN Outdoor information before attending for weather-related updates and cancellations.

A shared summer cinema experience
Outdoor screenings turn familiar films into communal occasions. The setting invites audiences to slow down, gather with friends, and experience the work beyond the walls of a traditional theatre.
